Introduction
UVA as a Confederate Institution
This project serves to elucidate the University's role in promulgating the Lost Cause narrative, as well as highlighting recent attempts to rectify such an endorsement of distorted historical memory. By examining in depth the Confederate memorial landscape on Grounds, I hope to reveal how the story of UVA and the Civil War has centered largely around preserving the legacy of the Confederacy.
